Ingredients:
- 500 grams chicken (optional)
- 50 grams thick-cut bacon (optional)
- 2 medium onions
- 2 medium carrots
- 2 medium potatoes
- 1 small broccoli
- 60 grams butter
- 1 bay leaf
- 50 grams flour
- 500 milliliters milk
- 100 milliliters heavy cream
- ½ teaspoon nutmeg
- 1000 milliliter water
- 2 teaspoons vegetable or chicken broth
- Salt
- Pepper
Directions:
Hint: The dish can be prepared vegetarian as well. Just leave out all the meat and continue with the other steps.
- Dice the potatoes and meat into bite sized pieces. Cut onions into wedges and slice carrots. Prepare the broccoli by breaking it into pieces.
- Put onions in a pot and sauté them briefly and then add the carrots. Fry meat in a pan.
- Add the water and the vegetable or chicken broth. Place the bay leaf in pot. Bring it to a boil and then lower the heat to half. Let simmer for ten minutes.
- Put potatoes, chicken and bacon into the mix. Let cook some more.
- Melt butter in a pan and add flour. Stir continually and add milk slowly (Make sure not to let it clump).
- Boil broccoli in a small pot with salted water for 3-4 minutes.
- Combine everything together and add the remaining ingredients. Season with salt and pepper to your liking.
Hint: Continue to let simmer on low heat while you eat.
Tipp: Stew goes great with rice, particularly white rice.
